  3. Our pets become such dear companions--each one is missed, a little part of our daily life gone.

  6. So sorry to hear that. They may be small animals but they leave big holes.

  11. So sorry - I am sure you will miss him. It is the downside of keeping pets - we get to love them too much.

  13. Oh, my heart aches for you. Furpersons are such a special part of our lives and the ache they leave behind is a private pain.

  15. Thank you all. He was such a character and we had grown even more close during his illness. I just wish it could have come right, but the vet reckoned that there had been earlier damage causing problems and thought he might have had a knock from a car. I think it more likely he chased a squirrel and fell from a tree - he was gone about 5 weeks in the summer so anything could have happened during that time.

I will miss him so much - his chirrups and head-stands where he rolled forward to have his tummy tickled and the way his long white-tipped tail bent forward over at the top, just like Alfalfa's daft question-mark hair in the children's film "Little Rascals".

I look a proper wreck this morning - eyes all puffy from crying. It's like losing a child - but I'm sure none of you need me to say that, as you already know that heartache . . .

  19. Thank you all for your kind comments. Each one is like a hug. We did the best thing, but making that choice is never easy. It always feels like you are playing God. My children don't call me Softy Mummy for nothing . . .

It's easier now he is gone and buried, because it was so difficult hoping he was going to get better, but all the signs stacking up to say that couldn't be. I tried everything possible, at least I can say that.
